Swim Tether Anchor Maintenance

Why Cleaning Is Important

Over time, exposure to pool water and the elements causes rust and mineral buildup inside the aluminum anchor base. This buildup can prevent the tether pole from inserting properly, affecting the performance and usability of your Swim Tether system.

What You'll Need

  • CLR or Lime-A-Way (for mineral deposits)
  • WD-40 Specialist Rust Remover or White Vinegar
  • Nylon or brass brush
  • Rag or paper towels
  • (Optional) Dremel or drill with wire brush attachment

Step-by-Step Cleaning Instructions

  1. Apply Cleaner:
Pour CLR or rust remover directly into the socket. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes.
  2. Scrub Thoroughly:
Use a nylon or brass brush to clean the inside, especially near the top edge.
  3. Rinse and Wipe:
Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry the socket completely.
  4. Test Fit:
Insert the tether pole. If it still sticks, continue to step 5.
  5. Mechanical Cleaning (if needed):
Use a Dremel or drill with a wire brush attachment to carefully remove stubborn buildup. Use light pressure.
  6. Prevent Future Buildup:
Apply a light coat of silicone spray or petroleum jelly inside the socket to help prevent sticking and corrosion.

Important Notes

  • Never hammer the pole into the anchor socket.
  • Do not use steel brushes that may gouge the aluminum.
  • If cleaning does not resolve the issue, the anchor may be deformed and require replacement.
